Revision Materials
Books and pdf files
1. If you really aren't keen on using the Internet to help you in your revision, you could always try some of my revision guides. See the pictures below to remind you of the publishers' names. They are waiting for you to come and use at any time. You can take the books home to review.

If you wish to find out more about this first, really excellent guide, read on (with a click on the link). The link opens a chapter in the revision guide about bonding:
inside_igcse_revision_guide.pdf (267,3 kB).
2. Specific topics (chapters from Chemistry for You) on Papers 3 and 6 can be checked against each exam during the years 2010 -2006. If you wish me to update this file, please see me. Note that the Year 11 Chemistry Manual also contains this information (page 163) in addition to the following link:
igcse question contents.pdf (490,8 kB)
3. The qualitative analysis sheets below are vital for your studies too. They describe tests for cations, anions and gases. They are used especially for Paper 6 at IGCSE or Paper 3 at A Level. I have only done up to 2010 since no-one has informed me whether they are sensational.
qualitative_analysis_notes.pdf (26,1 kB)
4. My revision focus sheet asks students whether they are optimising their chances of being successful in the June examinations. Read through the file and see if you can do something constructive to improve your revision technique.

Websites
A good starter for Year 9 might be the Sheppard sofware site with its fun Periodic Table games:
https://www.sheppardsoftware.com/Elementsgames.htm.
Chalkbored is another favourite in the UK and is worth you spending a little time to find out about all its interesting contents. It's suitable for all students studying science or chemistry from Year 9-11:
https://www.chalkbored.com/lessons/chemistry-11.htm.
If you want football fun, Canary Zoo is the site for you. Try a quiz and be a star centre forward at the same time. Topics include acids and alkalis, chemical reactions and tests, compounds, mixtures and the Periodic Table: https://www.canaryzoo.com/Chemistry%20Games.htm.
Another site which may help you understand experiments better is: https://www.practicalchemistry.org/. There are many experiments that you can browse to check the equipment needed or the associated theory. Have a look and surprise yourself.
I have recently been using a lot of materials for IGCSE revision which I would like to share with you. The first of these is https://www.chemsheets.co.uk/ which is a very good source of questions on many topics included in the syllabus. Certainly, if you are tired of doing lots of examinations, you could have a look at this site. The site seems to be blocked in China, but you can come and see me to find a way around this (18th Nov. 2010).
https://www.s-cool.co.uk/gcse/chemistry.html has some fun animations to help you remember some basic points. Sections include revision on atomic structure, chemical bonding, the Periodic Table, acids and alkalis, electrolysis, the reactivity series, extraction of metals and writing formulae and balancing chemical equations. I recently included an article in Rego Times and the Periodic Table mentioned is sensational. Try it out at https://www.ptable.com.
There is also some useful information relating to Year 10 topics, if you have forgotten them, at this site:
https://www.yacapaca.com/py/teacher/assignment/new/step2/subject/18/1/. Topics are reviewed as quizzes in a very colourful way. The site was recommended to me by a CIE examiner.
If you are keen to revise the properties of individual elements, the University of Nottingham Periodic Table site is a must:
https://www.periodicvideos.com/nyt/index.htm. If it doesn't work via Google, use the other link available.
https://www.quia.com/shared/search is great for Paper 6 revision of chemical apparatus etc. Mr Quimby's laboratory equipment practice quiz is very good. There are also many challenges and games on the website to increase your knowledge. Type in "chemistry" in the search box and then press GO to see the first 100 of 1027 chemistry activities!
https://www.creative-chemistry.org.uk/gcse/index.htm also includes worksheets, revision quizzes, crosswords and PowerPoint presentations to keep inquisitive minds busy.
Another old favourite, which should be mentioned, is Doc. Brown's chemistry clinic; where you can fix any chemistry problem you may have. The site is now ten years old, so it's completing its 10th anniversary, just like Rego did:
https://www.docbrown.info/index.htm
Another favourite to mention is the BBC Bitesize website. I am told it is much improved.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/science/
The Avogadro site is a useful one for A Level students and should be checked out when you have the opportunity:
https://www.avogadro.co.uk/chemist.htm.
There is so much information out there, but it's probably best to keep to these sites as they are guaranteed to be good. Good luck in your studies, and come and see me if you can't solve any question!!
Finally, don't forget Extreme Papers for all your examination needs link
If you wish to help me upgrade the manual, please take the survey by clicking on the link below. Your comments are appreciated so that your learning gets better and better!
